Carolina Pets is proud to be one of the few hospitals in the greater Charlotte area to offer digital radiology. This advanced technology allows X-ray films to be processed at the click of a button which means images of your pet can be obtained in seconds.
The images produced from digital radiology are far superior to traditional X-ray films allowing our veterinarians to make a more accurate diagnosis. Through the use of the internet, digital radiology also gives us access to highly specialized radiologists whose expertise is invaluable in providing a second opinion on our X-ray images. All X-rays films taken at Carolina Pets may be reviewed by a board certified radiologist.
This non-invasive state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs. Ultrasound allows the veterinarian to view the organs in three dimensions and to perform biopsies without surgery. Carolina Pets is proud to have a GE Logiq 5 Pro complete with Truscan technology for unsurpassed image quality and Comfortscan for an advanced ergonomic design for the comfort of your pet. Dr. Meyers has over 10 years of experience with ultrasound techniques including ultrasound guided biopsies
The ultrasound examination is painless, non-invasive and safe and typically does not require your pet to be sedated. Ultrasound technology works through sound waves that travel into the body, returning images of the internal organ to a screen, allowing us to visualize the heart in real time.
Carolina Pets Animal Hospital has the technology and experience to provide cardiac echocardiograms.
Echocardiograms are “real time” images taken of your pet’s heart using ultrasound equipment. The echocardiogram allows our veterinarians to see inside your pet’s heart and helped us to evaluate the structure and function of the heart. We can detect birth defects, diseases of the heart valves and heart muscle diseases, identify fluid around the heart, identify cardiac tumors and certain types of heartworm infections. The components of the echocardiogram can include:
We may recommend an echocardiogram for your pet if we suspect congenital or acquired heart disease, for example a heart murmur or irregular heart rhythm or when indicated by the results of an x-ray.
At Carolina Pets we work closely with Charlotte Veterinary Surgical Services to provide our patients with complete endoscopy services. We can provide gastrointestinal endoscopy (colonoscopy, gastroscopy), rhinoscopy, and cystoscopy.
Endoscopy offers a non-surgical option for many ailments that are difficult to diagnose or a foreign object that needs removal from the stomach. Pets with chronic vomiting, regurgitation, chronic diarrhea or chronic coughing, and whose physical examination, blood work, or other diagnostic testing could not reveal the source of the illness used to be faced with exploratory surgery or vets would have to treat their symptoms without knowing for sure that what they were doing would help. Since Carolina Pets added endoscopy, we have been able to diagnose these pets without surgery and with a faster recovery rate.
Endoscopy involves use of a flexible fiber optic instrument to examine the area of interest. Pets that undergo endoscopy are sedated and will feel no discomfort from the procedure. The tip of the endoscope typically includes a specialized video camera for examining the area being studied, and endoscope can also include a tube for allowing tools to be used and fluids or samples to be taken from the affected area.
